Transmissions

Mechanical transmissions adapt motor speed and torque to the driven load. Ratio, permissible output torque, radial and axial loads, backlash, efficiency, mounting position, duty cycle and service factor are considered together.

Designing Transmissions to Run Quiet

Gear noise starts at the mesh: small imperfections create dynamic forces that travel through the gearbox casing and radiate as sound. We work at each stage of that chain — reducing the excitation at the mesh itself, limiting how those vibrations travel from mesh to casing, and designing the frame to radiate less of what's left — rather than trying to muffle noise after the fact. It's partly a regulatory question, as noise limits tighten, but just as much a practical one: quieter usually also means more precisely engineered, and that shows up in reliability as well as in how a machine sounds to the people working around it.
